Discussion club for the day of combating human trafficking
"Human trafficking is a stain on humanity. We condemn it, because it is a gross violation of inalienable human rights. Every person everywhere has a deep, inherent equal dignity" - this is how US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo characterized the phenomenon of human trafficking during the presentation of the 2019 Report "On Human Trafficking".
According to this document, Ukraine belongs to the countries of the 2nd group, therefore, the Government of the country does not fully comply with the minimum standards for the elimination of human traffickingblows, but puts considerable effort into it.
This and a number of other factors that are important for overcoming this phenomenon were discussed during the discussion club dedicated to the European Day of Combating Human Trafficking. Most of the attention was focused on establishing the status of a person who suffered from human trafficking and assigning legal assistance to such persons.
Experts from the NGO "La Strada-Ukraine" Maryna Legenka and Olga Shved came to Kharkiv to, together with representatives of the Kharkiv Regional Department of Social Protection of the Population of the Regional State Administration, regional and city social services, the territorial administration of justice, the Regional Center for Providing Free Legal Aid, the National the police, the Department of Education, employment centers and public organizations to take part in the discussion.
The topic of people's resistance aroused considerable interest, since there were more than 50 people who wanted to join the event. After the speeches of the speakers who raised the problems in the region related to human trafficking, a moderated discussion took place with the participation of Maryna Legenko, who presented a case of human trafficking for the purpose of labor exploitation. In turn, Olga Shved briefly presented the results of the monitoring visit to the Kharkiv region, which also raised questions and discussion.
The reports from the head of the Main Territorial Department of Justice in Kharkiv Region, Tetyana Yehorova-Lutsenko, about surrogate motherhood and the head of the Bar Council of Kharkiv Region, Viktoria Hayvoronska, about the problem of working with lawyers and lawyers affected by human trafficking were interesting. Representatives of the Migration Service, the Children's Service, and the State Employment Service also took part in the discussions.
The discussion club was organized by the NGO "La Strada-Ukraine" in partnership with the Kharkiv Regional State Administration and the Center for Free Legal Aid for the Kharkiv and Luhansk Regions as part of the project "Advocacy to improve the response of the state and policy to combat human trafficking", which is implemented by "La Strada-Ukraine". Ukraine" with the support of the International Organization for Migration and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway.
